About Us

Dedication and Service

FOUNDATION FOR MPUASUMAN EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Registration: 03 July 2001

Other names: FOMED (Working name)

FOMED works in education policy and practice to empower its beneficiaries and to be more supportive to them in order to achieve their desired aims and objectives. It provides the means to develop the other ways of motivating and encouraging learners to continue with their chosen courses while at the same time, not forgetting the question of classroom discipline. Our teams in England and Ghana aim to support teachers and policy makers, particularly in Ghana to influence the education environment in our traditional area. The population of Mpuasuman Traditional Area (Ghana) is about twenty-five thousand and those of school going age are about six thousand. There are six towns and fifteen villages and most of the villages have at least two schools. The educational facilities for the use of these children is not only inadequate but also very appalling. This is why FOMED has been helping improve this area of Ghana.

It is incredible how one small idea can grow into something truly special. FOMED Charity is rooted in the belief that we all have an inherent responsibility to make a meaningful difference in our community. With a variety of active projects and a large volunteer staff, we harness our skills and resources to successfully achieve our goals. Since our founding in 2001, we have been proud to witness how our activities have benefitted the community and beyond. Want to take part? Contribute to our work by donating or volunteering today.

FOMED is a registered charity in the United Kingdom and under the direction of a Board of Trustees. Charity No:1087334

Nature of Business

a. To advance education of the public particularly but not exclusively of the inhabitants of Mpuasuman traditional area in Ghana.

b. To provide relief for persons who are in conditions of need, hardship, distress, social exclusion both in the UK and elsewhere.

c. To promote and advance education in African culture and heritage by encouraging studies in Ghanaian history and culture.

We endeavour to achieve the above through some of the following:

  • Collection of used educational books, used computers, learning and teaching materials from colleges or institutions and donation for use by the schools in the Mpuasuman Traditional Area (Ghana).

  • Campaigns contacting and soliciting assistance from UK-based organisations or companies. For instance, Energy Saving Trust UK gave us a range of items including, cutlery, tea cups for functions, technical items like measuring tapes which we issued to both apprentices and qualified masons and carpenters in the Mpuasuman traditional area.

  • Fundraising events

  • Delivery of lectures on African history by experts in particular topics

  • Teaching both adults and youth about African cultures through drumming and dance

  • Rarely, we make contributions towards the relief of the victims of major incidents

LOCALLY OWNED

Embracing Outstanding Quality

FOMED has now regrouped after years of almost being dormant due to the passing away of prominent members and finally the pandemic which had devastating effects on charities as a whole. We are now recruiting more people, especially young people who are interested and willing to join.  We are going to expand our profile through social networking and thereby increase our income. We are going to embark on campaigns to recruit more volunteers through activities like lecturing and teaching, both adults and youth, about African history and cultures like drumming and dancing. We are intending to increase the number of lectures and also encourage more gift aid.  Through the increased activities, we are optimistic of achieving an annual turnover of around £10,000.

TRUSTEES

Trustees are the people responsible for controlling the work, management and administration of the charity on behalf of its beneficiaries. Generally trustees are treasurer, chair, board member etc. The trustees are responsible for keeping this list up to date and can do this by updating their details as they happen through the online service.
