FOMED CHARITY
The objectives of FOMED include running of projects both in the United Kingdom and Ghana.
PROJECTS IN GHANA
FOMED has currently aimed to provide financial support towards locally identified projects for four kindergarten and primary schools in Mpuasuman Traditional Council.

Kindergarten and Primary school education forms the basis of the educational development of every child. There are more primary schools in the traditional area but due to limited resources we have chosen four schools to assist. We believe that the provision of facilities and materials would empower and support the parents and adults in the areas to nurture parental responsibilities and caring in our young people where they live, learn, work and play. The objective would be achieved through different phases to cover Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary Schools.
Phase one will cover three years

First Year:
FOMED plans to make provision of one thousand pounds (£1,000) for the schools. This amount would be used for the purchase of stationery.
If funds are available FOMED will make provision of five thousand pounds (£5,000) for the procurement of materials and facilities during the first year. Part of the amount would be used to purchase tables and chairs to be used by the children. For instance, a table and a chair are estimated at the cost of five pounds (£5).

Second/Third Years
The second and third years of Phase one will include the above and the following, all depending on availability of funds.
-
Further two thousand pounds (£2,000) provision would be made for stationery - chalk, pens, pencils, eraser, exercise and notebooks, etc.
-
Contribute towards construction and renovation of classroom blocks e.g. roofing, windows and ceiling and other building materials.
-
Children’s books
-
Teaching materials
-
Furniture – dual desk, tables and chairs for both pupils and teachers
-
Solar lamps for pupils without access to electricity
-
Computers, printers and peripherals, photocopying machines, etc.
-
Footballs and Jerseys
-
Poly tank for storage of water
Secondary School: Scholarship and Bursary Schemes
From second year, FOMED aims to make provision for the award of scholarships to three outstanding students each academic year subject to the availability of funds.
A budgeted amount of one thousand five hundred pounds (£1,500) would be earmarked for the benefit of three students to cover their tuition fee and other relevant cost of their studies.
Further amount of fifty pounds (£50.00) each would be made available for the use by ten (10) students who may need some financial relief to enable them to continue their studies.

PROJECTS IN UNITED KINGDOM
Besides projects in Ghana, there are also educational projects in the United Kingdom, as one of the objectives of FOMED is to promote and advance education in African culture and heritage.

The object would cover wide range of topics including history, art, games, language, drumming and dancing, songs and storytelling, customs and traditional institutions like marriage, funeral rites, religions, traditional administrative systems and beliefs in superstitions. Depending on financial sustainability, this project will be ongoing throughout the year and subsequent years.

Form:
a. Organising some weekend activities and classes;
b. Organising lectures and seminars on specific cultural topics with workshops;
c. Organising occasional cultural displays and fanfares.
Means of achieving the above
a. Some members would be urged to offer their services free of charge in this area of activities.
b. Other professional and qualified personnel with the expertise in the above areas of studies would be invited to partake in the activities. Their services would be paid for as and when necessary.
c. Some of these events will attract nominal fee for adults, discounted fee for students who are over 18 years. All events would be free for the disabled, pensioners and students under 18 years as well as children.
d. Participants and audience would be urged and encouraged to make voluntary donation in all these events. Such donation would be used to defray the cost of organising the functions.
A lot of activities can now be organised online to save money.
Educational subjects and topics of interest
Mental and other health topical issues, Black History Month, etc. would be included in FOMED activities. To taste some examples of these activities, please proceed to our website and read some fascinating facts and let your friends, families and colleagues be aware. More activities will be coming this year. Watch the space.
FUNDRAISING
We are relying on donations from individuals and organisations to carry out our projects. We are always looking for volunteers to help us raise funds by different means. We encourage individuals or groups to carry out sponsored events like marathons, walking, climbing, swimming, etc.
No donation is too small. We aim to raise £8,000 for this 2024/2025 financial year.
